about Me
Hi, I am Andre Theus.
I grew up just outside Cologne, Germany, and have spent the past two decades living in Santa Barbara, California. Even after many years abroad, Germany remains a place I return to regularly. Not as a one-time visitor, but as someone still connected to its regions, rhythms, and everyday realities.
Berge & Bier started as a way to organize my own trip planning. Over time, it became a structured travel guide built around something I value deeply: context. Germany is a country shaped by regional identity, local traditions, and meaningful contrasts between cities, landscapes, and cultures.
Because I return often, I see Germany from two angles: as someone who grew up there and as someone who now approaches it with fresh eyes each time. That perspective shapes how I write. I focus on realistic pacing, practical planning, and understanding how places actually fit together on a trip.
Travel has also changed for me. Exploring Germany now includes traveling with a child, which has sharpened my sense of what works, what feels rushed, and what truly adds value to a few days in a city or region. That’s why many of my posts prioritize clarity over hype and thoughtful planning over packed itineraries.
